Quick diagnosis of pathogens has been a critical measure for the control of infectious disease. In our lab we develop biosensor-based instrument for the rapid detection and quantification of generic pathogens in clinical, food, water and other environmental samples, which usually takes several hours to days for the confirmation. The instrument will have benefits like high sensitivity, lightweight, inexpensive, handheld, easy to use, and configured for the fluorescent probes commonly used for immunofluorescence. Our interdisciplinary approach that combines high sensitive optical techniques with the highly specificity of antigen-antibody based method is used to target the pathogen. We innovate the process by taking a non-conventional approach to immunofluorescence. We have developed a rapid and cost effective solutions for pathogen detection which is currently in the process of clinical validation.
